Since 2003 the Kiwanis Club of Waldorf, along with the Kiwanis Clubs of Charles County and La Plata, have sold Christmas ornaments as it's major fund raiser. The ornaments are 24k gold plated and depict the history of Charles County. Past ornaments have shown the Port Tobacco Court House, the La Plata Train Station, One Room School Houses of Charles County, Tobacco Barns of Charles County, and Light Houses of Charles County. The 2008 ornament will celebrate Charles Counties' 350th anniversary with depictions of the Port Tobacco Court House, Charles County Seal, and a Charles County Tobacco Barn. The ornaments are designed by Maggie Wyman a member of the Kiwanis Club of Waldorf.
The ornaments are sold at local business including PNC Bank, Judy's Hallmark, The Wild Bird Center, Material Girls Quilt Boutique, Martins Service Station, Mattawoman Creek Arts Center, and several others. Ornaments are also sold on weekends in November and December by Kiwanis Members at local Safeway Stores in Waldorf and La Plata.
The 2008 ornament will be for sale in November 2008.
